The Artist

Artist Bio:

I received my Bachelors of Arts in architecture from Iowa State University in 1978 and my Masters degree in engineering in 1980. I then began my professional career in California as an engineer working on numerous architectural projects in the State.

My interest in photography and painting began early in life and I have often found art a refuge to my every day professional grind. First and foremost, my mother was my driving force in early childhood. She was and still is my inspiration and muse. I come from and extended family of artists, and arts were always appreciated and talked about by those around me. Even though I have taken many art classes in my life, For the most part I consider myself self taught and my styles in photography and paintings were both developed by me and continue to develop day by day.

If I had to describe my style in both mediums, I would say I look for the foreground in any scene first, the background second. What interests me most in a coastal scene is the rocks and the sand formations on the beach, and in a landscape, the tall grass, the wetlands and the water that are close enough to touch. That’s when I feel one with nature and a picture or painting is my way of preserving such memories.

Artist Statement:

Having lived in California and traveled to many scenic locations of the US, I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to see some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world first hand. Currently living in southern California, I strive to share my artistic impressions of the land and the sea through my photography and paintings with the patrons of the arts and nature enthusiasts
